Why Star Wars Is Peak Storytelling

I have been obsessed with the Star Wars universe ever since my childhood. I can nerd out about it all day. 

I convinced my roommates to let me store my Star Wars Legos in our liquor cabinet. The majority of my bedroom decor is Star Wars related.

I think George Lucas gave a gift to this world. I will always be appreciative of that.

Star Wars is about two things: family and good versus evil. The Jedi represent good and the Sith represent evil.

Both have a strong connection to the force. The Sith use the dark side of the force. The Jedi use the light side of the force.These factions mirror the choice that people make everyday: whether or not to do the right thing.

Anakin Skywalker is the chosen one in Star Wars.

I believe his character arc is the best in all of fiction. He goes from a slave, to being on the Jedi council, to becoming a genocidal space dictator. 

Jedi believe they must surrender personal attachments to effectively serve. This belief led to their downfall and Anakin’s turn to the darkside. He could not renounce his love for his mother. He blamed the Jedi council for her death because the council did not allow him to see her. 

Yoda’s quote from Star Wars: Attack of the Clones foreshadows Anakin’s betrayal, “Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. And hate leads to suffering.” 

Anakin fears losing his loved ones. His lack of power angers him, leading him to become Darth Vader in the pursuit of more power. Palpatine exploits his hate towards the Jedi. Anakin (now Vader) suffers by losing three of his limbs and burning alive.

Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader inhabit the same body but are two completely different people. Anakin was kind. Vader was merciless. “Anakin is gone. I am what remains,” Vader tells Obi-wan. 

Anakin fell because he could not save his mother and he feared losing his wife, Padme. Anakin would only be redeemed by his son, Luke Skywalker. Luke was able to save his father because he still saw a piece of Anakin inside Vader. 

All of this warms my heart every time I think about it. The fact it all ties back in is brilliant.

Star Wars is iconic in many regards: music, imagery, characters, and more. Star Wars will outlive us all.

John Williams has been nominated for an Oscar five times for his work on Star Wars. He won one of those nominations.

Darth Vader is the best villain in film history. 

The light saber is the most well known weapon in pop culture. 

There are many ways to enjoy Star Wars: film, television, comics, video games, novels, animation, and more.

Star Wars would not be nearly as popular today if not for the notable people who helped bring it to life. Mark Hamil, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford all gave amazing performances in more than three Star Wars films.
