What is your favorite type of writing?
Writing creative fiction stories has always been the most fun and interesting for me. The idea of being able to create your very own world fascinates me. I find creating characters, relationships, situations, etc. to be very exciting.
What is your desired profession?
I want to write/develop story narratives for video games. My dream job is to either be on the creative team or one of the lead writers for the game’s story. I have always enjoyed writing stories and believe that interactive stories, such as video games, are the best and most intuitive forms of storytelling.
Why are you majoring in English as opposed to Game Design?
Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA was my top choice college. They have an amazing game design program. I, however, was unable to attend and went to Middle Tennessee State University. Where I decided to become the best writer possible in multiple areas. Thus, allowing for me to have experience in a multitude of writing forms/styles.
What are your favorite types of video games to play?
My all time favorite video game is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I love open world games. The more free range I have within a game, the more I enjoy it. But when it comes to story design, I am very interested in games where the decisions you make affect how the story plays out. Such as Telltale’s The Walking Dead series, Until Dawn, and Detroit: Become Human.
How much experience do you have with writing?
I have shown an affinity for writing since elementary school. I even made my own comic books in the fifth grade. As the years have gone by, my writing skills have vastly improved. In the spring of 2022, I wrote my first full length movie script. I have multiple ten minute plays under my belt as well as some other short scripts. I keep my journal with me at all times, writing in it helps with my mental health as well as my penmanship.
What sets you apart from others trying to get into the field?
My passion for video games combined with my passion for writing gives me an edge amongst my peers. I may not be the best video game player, nor the best writer. But my love for both areas and the combination of them, allows for me to do the best work possible. I am the most motivated when I am passionate about my task. I will never settle for anything less than my best when I am motivated.
